The Official K'NAAN Website

There are so many versions of K'naan's #1 song Wavin' Flag, and now there's even one without him. These children are apart of a small music educational program in Toronto called Outside the Box. With music classes on the decline, local artists came together to create an after school program providing opportunities for children to become involved in music. This video is of them singing Wavin' Flag, very cute! Check it out here:

Hey Michael, glad to hear that someone is as enthralled as myself about all of this. I would definitely have to say that the majority of K'naan's interviews are very interesting, but the ones that have been catching my attention recently are those pertaining to his youth in Somalia (specifically his involvement), and his opinions/beliefs on his music (mainly Wavin' Flag and its usage with Coca-Cola). I think it is amazing that someone who lived in Somalia and was surrounded by all of their current political problems is speaking true words of wisdom to the world. Really an amazing role model, and his lyrics and way of portraying what is going on there and his experiences are truly inspirational. We can learn a lot from him, and I hope that people realize this. With this said, he has been receiving a lot of negative criticism from people about using Wavin' Flag with Coca-Cola. He is not a sellout and people saying this are truly just jealous and haters. So what if he changed one line in his song, you can still go listen to the original version. In addition it was a great opportunity for him to spread his name more and make some money (something that we all try to do). Nothing about him is a sellout, all you need to do is listen to his music to know this. I hope that once the World Cup has died down people start following him more and learn from him. He has experienced and lived through a lot, and as people from an outside standpoint we can listen, understand more of what's going on in the world today, and become more well rounded. Thank you K'naan (and Michael).
