Most of Somalia is controlled by the militia group called al Shabaab, who have decided to ban Somalis from watching this years World Cup because it goes against their Islamic religion. The al Shabaab also believes that watching the World Cup would serve as a distraction in their attempt to overtake the Somalian government. Although the Somali soccer team did not qualify for the Cup, many people in Somalia still have a strong desire to watch this great event, even despite constraints placed by the al Shabaab. So, instead of agreeing to al Shabaab restrictions, Somalis are finding "underground" places to view 2010 World Cup games. These people are truly understanding the impact these games have on the world, and what an important event the World Cup has become in uniting people everywhere. Somalis are risking everything by defying their authorities, all because of some games, and what games they shall be! The 2010 World Cup has really proven to be an important event to all people and cultures across the world (except the al Shabaab), during a time in our history where disagreement and dilemmas between people and countries are most prevalent. Enjoy this years World Cup and embrace this time where we as a world are most unified!
