Hey All... This is K'naan,
I gotta say I'm honestly surprised that all these people
did not know about my canceling of the Maroon 5 tour
until they showed up. Between a press release that I
put out, announcements I personally posted on my twitter
and asking the venues to spread the word, I really thought at
least some of you would have known. Unfortunately, I can't
attend to these matters personally, there is usually publicists,
labels, management involved, and I rely on the people who work
for me, to get this done. Having opened for the Lenny Kravitz tour,
I could not have, physically and with a strong spirit attached, gone
on to open for the Maroon tour. I know that some of you have bought
tickets to see me, but in reality, it was not my tour. And yes, I don't
know a lot about how other artists feel, but it's incredibly difficult for
me to be an opening act. No matter how much the headlining band
respects me, I still don't get to have proper sound check, sometimes
they won't even allocate the bare minimum I need in order to actually
perform. A good example is the Lenny tour, although he himself seems
like a great guy, some nights they wouldn't give me the channel I need
to hear my own voice, meaning I would have no sense as to where I am
in the song, and pull off a half an hour while the fans enjoy a show that
I'm completely hating. I'm sure the Maroon organization would have
been much better for us, but having just gone through that spiritual fatigue,
my soul could not let me go on to trying again.
But honestly, if there is not one post from somebody at the label,
an intern or anyone on this site about my canceling the Maroon 5
tour, then that's pretty f***** up. An intern at A&M Octone can't
just repost my twitter feed? What the hell?
Again, I apologize to my fans. If you really want to experience my
live show, then see me when I'm headlining in your area. This is
why it's important to spread the word, get everybody you know to
look into troubadour, this way, we don't have to be an opening act
all the time and can play like we feel. Instead of how the headlining
band makes us feel.
One love,
K'naan
